Congress 09 – Bumper speaker line-up unveiled

The speaker program for the 2009 UDIA National Congress ('Making a Difference') has been revealed with the official opening of registrations for the major industry even. With the launch of the Congress registration pack and the website (www.udiacongress.com.au) in November members have received their first taste of the program and activities planned for 'Brisbane 09".

Taking place in Queensland's River City from March 30 - April 2, Congress will feature a broad-ranging selection of experts from industry and government along with a number of sought after corporate trainers.

In current times, guest speaker Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Ric Battalino, will provide valuable insights in the RBA's approach to managing Australia's financial health through turbulent times.

Flying in from the UK will be housing supply expert and member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England, Kate Barker. Kate has been at the forefront of research for the British Government to deal with undersupply issues and has strong views on strategies to deal with failing housing affordability.

Local supply expert Dr Owen Donald is the Chairman of the newly established National Housing Supply Council, having held previous roles as CEO of the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute and Director of Housing in Victoria. Dr Donald will outline the vision of the new council and its strategies for the vexing housing supply question.

congress delegates looking for first-hand wisdom from industry and business leaders will not be disappointed, with senior representatives from such powerhouse names as Mirvac, Delfin Lend Lease and Sarina Russo, while inspiration will come from some unconventional sources (RAAF Fighter Pilots!?).

Packaging the bumper program together with her razor sharp wit will be MC Jean Kittson-back by popular demand after rave reviews at the Congress 07 in Perth. Jean's laid back style will match the irreverent/unconventional Brisbane tone which will characterise all aspects of this event.

Congress 09 Chair Warren Harris said the congress organising committee had worked tirelessly to put together and plenary and social program which cover the breadth of industry issues while making the most of the unique Brisbane setting.

"The development industry is complex both in its nature and the influences under which it operates - a successful Congress program has to reflect that sophistication and I believe we have managed to achieve this.

"Our plenary will be hard-hitting and intense, with back to back unmissable speaker, but the congress social events and general Brisbane atmosphere will, I believe, provide the perfect balance.

"Delegates will be inspired, informed and recharged to head back to their place of work and 'Make a Difference' like never before."
